New Jersey Assemblywoman Michele Matsikoudis said that improving K–12 education has been a central focus of her work on the Education Committee, emphasizing policies designed to better serve students across the state.

The New Jersey Assembly Education Committee is responsible for overseeing statewide policies on curriculum standards, funding, and student achievement. Lawmakers are currently evaluating post-pandemic learning recovery and teacher workforce challenges in public schools.
According to the New Jersey Department of Education, state public schools serve approximately 1.3 million students. In 2024, the state increased K–12 funding by $900 million to support literacy programs, special education, and facility improvements.
New Jersey consistently ranks among the top five states nationally for K–12 performance. The state boasts a graduation rate of 91.5% and strong outcomes in reading and math, reflecting the impact of legislative education reforms.
Matsikoudis, a Republican representing New Jersey’s 21st Legislative District, focuses on education, fiscal responsibility, and local government efficiency. She serves on the Assembly Education Committee.
