(June 26, 2025) LEBANON BOROUGH, N.J. – Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. has announced the commencement of the 2025 Congressional App Challenge. This event is recognized as a significant competition for middle and high school students nationwide.
The challenge aims to engage students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education by encouraging them to create software applications or “apps.” Participants can use various programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, C++, Ruby, or block code on platforms including PC, web, tablet, robot, or mobile.
Students can register and submit their apps until October 30, 2025. They have the option to compete individually or in teams of up to four members. The competition is open to all eligible students regardless of their coding experience.
“The Congressional App Challenge is an incredible opportunity for the next generation of innovators to showcase their creativity and technical talent,” said Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. “Every year, I am inspired by the students of our district, and I look forward to seeing the innovative and impactful apps they create this year. Their work has the potential to give back to our communities, solve real-world problems, and inspire even more young people across New Jersey to pursue careers in STEM.”
The winning app from New Jersey’s 7th District will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol and featured on the official House of Representatives website. Winners will also be invited to attend the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington D.C., with runners-up receiving recognition as well.
