Congressman Tom Kean, who represents New Jersey’s 7th district in the U.S. House of Representatives, recently highlighted local law enforcement and legislative efforts on undersea cable security in a series of posts on his social media account.
On September 2, 2025, Kean recognized a member of the Clark Police Department, stating, “Our #NJ07 Law Enforcement Hometown Hero this week is Officer Giovannina Prisco of the Clark Police Department. Officer Prisco’s law enforcement journey began in 2013 as a licensed EMT before she transitioned to dispatcher, special officer, and ultimately a full-time police”.
Later that day, Kean addressed concerns about critical infrastructure: “Undersea cables are vital to our economy and security, but adversaries like China are targeting them. That is why I sponsored the Undersea Cable Control Act to prevent hostile powers from accessing the key technologies used in this critical infrastructure.”
On September 3, 2025, Kean announced progress on his legislation: “My bill, the Undersea Cable Control Act, has passed the House! Undersea cables are a vital part of global communication infrastructure, carrying 99 percent of all transoceanic digital communications, including internet data, through fiber optic networks. I thank my colleagues”.
Thomas Kean Jr., born in Livingston in 1968 and currently residing in Westfield, began serving as U.S. Representative for New Jersey’s 7th district in 2023 after previously holding seats in both chambers of New Jersey’s legislature. He earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College. The Undersea Cable Control Act aims to safeguard essential global communications infrastructure amid concerns about foreign threats targeting such systems.
