(July 3, 2025) WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) expressed his support after voting in favor of the final reconciliation package. The legislation was passed with a vote of 218 to 214 and will now be presented to the President for signing into law. The bill aims to provide benefits for middle-class taxpayers, protect health care for vulnerable populations, and address issues of waste and fraud in federal programs.

Kean stated, “This afternoon, Congress passed a commonsense legislative package that was a major win for New Jerseyans and Americans across the country. We secured the full SALT deduction for every middle-class family in New Jersey. I never backed down from the fight for SALT relief, standing up to Democrats and Republicans alike to quadruple the deduction to $40,000.” He also emphasized support for innovation by voting to renew R&D tax credits aimed at fostering research and development.

The congressman highlighted efforts made through this bill to safeguard Medicaid: “I voted to safeguard Medicaid for every intended beneficiary in the Garden State and nationwide.” By addressing inefficiencies within federal programs, Kean believes that vital services can be preserved both presently and in future scenarios.

Additionally, he pointed out allocations made towards healthcare: “Finally, this bill allocates $50 billion over five years to hospitals and health care providers.” The goal is ensuring continued quality care delivery throughout New Jersey as well as nationally.

Efforts were noted towards supporting families via increased Child Tax Credit amounts alongside local funding initiatives targeting Somerset County law enforcement capacities among others: “We permanently increased the Child Tax Credit to $2,200…by investing tens of millions of dollars in local state law enforcement.”

Kean underscored progress on border security enhancements along with promoting domestic energy independence while maintaining cost efficiency at governmental levels: “We made significant progress on key priorities like securing border…advancing affordability.”

Once signed into effect by President Trump it’s anticipated residents will experience immediate fiscal relief coupled with improved transparency measures from Washington—”Once President Trump signs this bill into law life will become more affordable…more support innovation.”
