During the first quarter of 2026, Foothill Acres Rehabilitation & Nursing Center ranked as the second largest nursing facility in Somerset County, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The center offered 200 beds, exceeding the Somerset County average by 73 in the first quarter of 2026. On average, 166.3 residents were served at the facility during that period.

Foothill Acres Rehabilitation & Nursing Center earned an overall CMS rating of 3 out of 5, trailing the statewide nursing home average of 3.4 in New Jersey.

For the same quarter, Regency Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center held the top spot as Somerset County’s largest nursing home with 265 beds, while Abingdon Care & Rehabilitation Center placed third with 180 beds.

Foothill Acres Rehabilitation & Nursing Center recorded zero fines or penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

Altogether, Somerset County, New Jersey, was home to 10 for-profit nursing facilities as of that period.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the U.S. older adult population is increasing while younger age groups are declining. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, compared to a 1.7% decrease in the under 18 population. The nation’s older adult population has expanded substantially since 1920, rising from 4.9 million to above 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study estimates that nearly half of this group—around 28 million people—may eventually require long-term care services and support, with more than a third expected to need nursing home care at some point.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
