Today, Congressman Tom Kean Jr. (NJ-07) expressed approval following the House’s passage of its reconciliation package. The legislation is described as a significant step forward for providing tax relief to the middle class, promoting American energy and innovation, and addressing waste, fraud, and abuse.

Kean stated, “We did it. The House just passed the Reconciliation package, a major step forward that delivers important wins for New Jerseyans and all Americans.” He emphasized his efforts to restore the property tax deduction for middle-class families in New Jersey, noting that “the House bill restores the full SALT deduction for middle-class families, providing up to $40,000 in deductibility.”

The package also addresses healthcare issues by protecting Medicaid for intended beneficiaries and preventing illegal immigrants from accessing taxpayer-funded benefits. According to Kean, this measure will ensure Medicaid’s sustainability for future generations. The Child Tax Credit has been increased to $2,500 to support young families during challenging times.

Kean highlighted additional provisions in the bill that benefit New Jersey: securing federal support for law enforcement in Somerset and Morris Counties and providing resources to enhance border security. He also mentioned measures aimed at boosting American energy production and improving national security while reducing wasteful spending.

“This bill lays the foundation for a stronger, more affordable America for middle-class families in the Seventh District,” Kean said. He pledged ongoing advocacy until the bill reaches the President’s desk.

Key aspects of the reconciliation package include raising the State and Local Tax deduction cap to $40,000, ensuring Medicaid integrity by directing benefits only to eligible recipients, securing reimbursement for local law enforcement when President Trump is in Bedminster, strengthening border security resources, advancing American energy independence, boosting the Child Tax Credit to $2,500, reforming prescription drug market practices through PBM reform, addressing Medicare physician payment issues with “Doc Fix,” passing the Orphan Cures Act to expedite drug development for rare diseases patients in New Jersey’s biotech industry, and modernizing air traffic control with a $12.5 billion investment.
