Today, Congressman Tom Kean Jr. (NJ-07) announced that the Norfolk Southern Lehigh Road Crossing in Neshanic Station, Branchburg, will be designated as a partial Quiet Zone starting July 31, 2025. This designation will last until July 31, 2027, providing relief to residents affected by train horns.
The Quiet Zone will enforce horn silence from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM every day. A road closure and detour plan will be implemented during this period.
Congressman Kean stated, “Branchburg families will soon be able to enjoy quiet mornings and peaceful evenings once again. For too long, loud train whistles have disrupted the daily lives of residents throughout our community. I have heard from countless constituents, through emails, phone calls, and conversations, about the toll this constant noise has taken on their basic quality of life. That is why I have worked hard at the federal level to advocate for a solution, and I am glad to have delivered results.”
He further added that the temporary designation is a significant step towards achieving lasting peace for local neighborhoods. “I am pleased to announce that, beginning July 31, the Lehigh Road Crossing will be designated as a partial quiet zone through July 31, 2027. This is a major step forward in bringing long-overdue relief to the surrounding neighborhoods,” he said.
Kean emphasized his commitment to working with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Norfolk Southern, and Branchburg Township officials for a permanent Quiet Zone designation.
