Congressman Tom Kean, currently representing New Jersey’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, commented on various legislative and policy issues over social media on April 4th and 5th, 2025. Kean, who began his congressional tenure in 2023 after succeeding Tom Malinowski, has a background in state legislation as a former member of the New Jersey General Assembly and the New Jersey Senate.

On April 4th, Congressman Kean emphasized the critical importance of undersea cables in global data and communications infrastructure, particularly amid concerns over increasing control by China. He stated, “Undersea cables are vital to global data and communications. As China seeks greater control over this critical infrastructure, it’s crucial we respond. That’s why I introduced the Undersea Cable Control Act this week to protect undersea cables from foreign interference.”

Later that day, Kean expressed his dissatisfaction with a tax-related proposal. He tweeted, “This $25k SALT Cap proposal falls far short of what New Jersey families need and deserve and it is simply not acceptable. Negotiation and compromise that moves us in the right direction is important, however, this proposal does not do nearly enough to deliver meaningful tax “

The following day, on April 5th, Kean lauded the rapid approval of Economic Injury Disaster Loans by the Small Business Administration, aimed at providing relief to small businesses affected by the I-80 closure in Morris County and beyond. He expressed, “The SBA’s rapid approval of Economic Injury Disaster Loans will provide meaningful relief for small businesses in Morris County and surrounding areas impacted by the I-80 closure. Securing these federal resources took swift, coordinated action across all levels of government. I”
