In early 2026, Regency Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was recognized as Somerset County’s largest nursing facility, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The center reported 265 available beds, which is 138 more than the county average for the first quarter of 2026. During this time, an average of 196.5 residents received care at the facility.

The CMS awarded Regency Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center an overall rating of 4 out of 5, surpassing the New Jersey nursing home average of 3.4.

Foothill Acres Rehabilitation & Nursing Center ranked as the county’s second largest nursing facility during the period, providing 200 beds, followed by Abingdon Care & Rehabilitation Center, which offered 180 beds.

Regency Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center had no reported fines or penalties for the first quarter of 2026.

There were 10 for-profit nursing homes operating across Somerset County, New Jersey.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate that the population of older adults nationwide is growing, while numbers among younger age groups are declining. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older increased by 13%, and those younger than 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the past 100 years, the older adult population in the U.S. rose from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024, census reports show.

A 2021 analysis found that about half of the older population, roughly 28 million people, are expected to need long-term services and supports, with over one-third anticipated to require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an educational organization for insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
