On July 15, 2024, Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) presented a $459,000 ceremonial check to Raritan Township officials. The funding was secured through the FY2024 Community Project Funding process and will be used for new generators at the Raritan Township Municipal Building and Police Department.

In attendance were Scott Sipos, Mayor of Raritan Township; Al Payne, Chief of Raritan Township Police; Deputy Mayor Bob King; Committeeman Scott McDade; OEM Coordinator Chris Phelan; and local firefighters and emergency personnel.

“As a former first responder, I know how critical it is that our municipal services have the resources they need to best serve our neighbors,” said Congressman Kean. "This $459 thousand-dollar federal grant will make great strides in addressing the unique needs of Raritan and make a real difference in the lives of Raritan Township residents.”

“We appreciate Congressman Kean’s ongoing advocacy and tireless work to secure important federal grant funds for Hunterdon County,” said Jeff Kuhl, Hunterdon County Commissioner Director. “The grant funds for the new backup generator systems for Raritan Township are essential to ensuring the continuity of local government and the continued delivery of important services during severe weather events and prolonged power outages. Congressman Kean is to be commended for his efforts.”

“I appreciate the leadership and efforts of Representative Kean to make Raritan Township a key priority,” said Scott Sipos, Mayor of Raritan Township. “This grant is a testament to the effective collaboration between federal and local authorities in addressing the needs of our community. Congressman Kean’s support enables Raritan Township to advance our emergency management infrastructure and significantly improve our resilience to ensure that critical functions, such as our Emergency Operations Center, continue uninterrupted during emergencies. This funding will make a difference in the lives of our residents especially at the times they need it most.”

Congressman Kean secured $24 million in Community Project Funding for fiscal year 2024.
