U.S. Congressman Thomas Kean Jr., who represents New Jersey’s 7th district, marked several milestones and recognitions in a series of posts on his social media accounts this week.
On March 24, 2026, Kean highlighted the anniversary of Taiwan’s democratic progress, stating, “This week marks the 30th anniversary of Taiwan’s first direct presidential election, a milestone achieved in 1996 even as China launched missiles in an attempt to intimidate voters. Three decades later, Taiwan stands as a beacon of democracy in the Indo-Pacific, but the threats”. The post references both historical tensions and ongoing challenges facing Taiwan.
Later that day, Kean expressed gratitude toward his office interns. He wrote on March 24: “The interns serving in our New Jersey office play a key role in supporting constituent services, federal casework, and district events. Thank you to our three district interns, Phillip, Joseph, and Joe, for your hard work and dedication this spring! There’s still one week left”.
On March 25, Kean recognized National Medal of Honor Day with a tribute to John Basilone. He posted: “Today is National Medal of Honor Day The Medal of Honor is the United States’ highest military award for valor. In recognition of this day, I want to honor one recipient from our district, John Basilone, who grew up in Raritan, New Jersey and served as a U.S. Marine Corps”.
Thomas Kean Jr., born in Livingston in 1968 and currently residing in Westfield at age 54, has represented New Jersey’s 7th District since 2023 after succeeding Tom Malinowski. Prior to his current role in Congress, he served both in the New Jersey General Assembly (2001-2003) and Senate (2008-2022). Kean holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College.
