Congressman Tom Kean, who represents New Jersey’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on October 1, 2025, highlighting both political developments and community events in his district.
In a post made early that morning, Kean criticized fellow lawmakers for their votes regarding a government shutdown. He wrote on October 1, 2025: “While three of their colleagues crossed the aisle, @SenBooker and @SenatorAndyKim chose partisanship and voted to shut down the government tonight. That’s disappointing. A shutdown has real consequences for families and communities in New Jersey, and they will have to answer for”.
Later that day, Kean shared his experience visiting a local cultural institution. On October 1, 2025 he stated: “It was a pleasure touring the Rialto Center for Creativity in Westfield! Rialto has revitalized a 100-year old building into a vibrant gathering space for the community. From performances and exhibits to film screenings and conversations, it will serve as a hub for art”.
In another post on October 1, 2025, Kean congratulated Temple Emanu-El of Westfield on its anniversary: “Congratulations to Temple Emanu-El of Westfield on 75 years! Rhonda and I were honored to meet with Rabbi Ethan Prosnit, Temple President Ben Berry, and their team today to present a Congressional Record recognizing this remarkable milestone. For three-quarters of a century,”.
Thomas Kean Jr., born in Livingston in 1968 and currently residing in Westfield, began serving as U.S. Representative for New Jersey’s 7th District after succeeding Tom Malinowski in 2023. Before joining Congress, he served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2001 to 2003 and the New Jersey Senate from 2008 to 2022. Kean is an alumnus of Dartmouth College with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
