The Center for Great Expectations issued the following announcement.
We work to separate mothers from their dependency. Not their children.
Unlike most substance use treatment centers, when a pregnant woman or a mother with preschool children comes to our door for help with their addiction, we welcome them with open arms.
At CGE, we offer mothers a friendly, safe environment where they can work on their recovery, while their children are cared for at our on-site licensed child development center, Katy’s Place.
We know that the trauma children experience by being separated from their mother can have a lasting effect on their well-being. And may even cause them to become substance users later in life. That’s why we do everything we can to keep the mother and child together during her treatment.
We’ll work to prevent a child’s removal by the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency. Or, if a child has already been removed, our clinical treatment team will work collaboratively with the mother to reunite her with her child.
Unfortunately, CGE’s approach is rare. To learn about the problems mothers, pregnant women and adolescents face when seeking treatment, visit: https://www.cge-nj.org/.../the-real-crisis-isnt-that-a.../
