On January 16, 2025, Congressman Tom Kean Jr. (NJ-07) issued a statement regarding the reported ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Kean has engaged with individuals directly affected by the conflict, including those whose family members have been taken hostage or who have lost loved ones.

Kean expressed his gratitude for the agreement, which includes the release of dozens of hostages held in Gaza, among them American citizens. He stated: "This is a positive step forward, and I commend this progress." Despite this development, Kean emphasized the need to continue efforts until all hostages are released: "We must continue working toward the release of all hostages—and we will not rest until every American is returned to their families and loved ones."

Reflecting on events since October 7th, 2023, when Hamas launched an attack on Israel, Kean reiterated his support for Israel's right to self-defense: "Israel has fought to defend itself, and I will always stand by Israel’s right to protect its people."
