Cost of college went up for all students at Raritan Valley Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 5.9 percent for 2018-19 at Raritan Valley Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

New Jersey residents paid $5,692 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $316 more than the $5,376 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid the same amount as residents this year, or $5,692. Their price tag grew 5.9 percent from $5,376 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are New Jersey residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 53 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 575 students received grants or scholarships totaling $2.9 million and 159 students took out student loans totaling more than $735,710.

Including all undergraduates (7,887), 2,359 students used grants or scholarships totaling $9.6 million, and 668 students took out $3.1 million in federal student loans.
