With 2022 rapidly coming to a close, FTPL staff thought it would be fun to share a list of our favorite books, movies, and TV that we’ve read or watched over the past year. All of the books included in this post are available at the library, so please click on any titles to put them on hold.

Murder Among Friends: Captivating true crime story of two teenage boys arrogant enough to think they could commit the ultimate crime and get away with it.

Call Him Jack: This is not a sports biography, but the story of a fierce advocate for civil rights who also just happened to play baseball.

I Could Not Do Otherwise: Read about this tenacious woman with unmeasurable amounts of grit and guts who fought to become a doctor for the Union in the Civil War and went on to become a civil rights activist for many issues including dress reform for women.

The Sun Does Shine (Young Readers Edition): Remarkable and inspiring story of perseverance and hope in the face of injustice. Get out your tissues!

This year has been all about going back and reading my favorite series from the beginning; like comfort food for the soul. It started in Grant County, GA, then off to the Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office, and has taken me back to 18th century Scotland. (FYI – The Will Trent Series is now a television series airing in January!)

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow is a book about a friendship spanning decades between two people that partnered to create popular video games. Romantic tension, jealousy, and fame drives the two apart and the only possible hope of reconciliation lies in the virtual world of video games. Fans of the Apple TV Series, Mythic Quest will probably enjoy this book.

I also began to reread The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King. It is called his magnum opus, and contains elements of fantasy, science fiction, western, horror, and adventure, making it a unique creation that’s hard to define. If you love Stephen King and have not read this yet, I highly recommend you give this a try. The Dark Tower is the center of the Stephen King universe and once you read it you will notice all the references to it you missed in his other works.

-Paul, Franklin Park Staff

Dead to Me (the third and final season came out this year) Warning: Only start this show if you’re prepared to laugh ‘til you cry and have your heart broken . . . and all the feels in between.
