WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representatives Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07), Bill Pascrell (NJ-09), Mike Bost (IL-12), and 136 members sent a bipartisan letter to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, requesting Leadership to include the Fire Grants and Safety Act in the FY24 appropriations package.

H.R. 4090, the Fire Grants and Safety Act of 2023, provides a five-year reauthorization for the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) Program, and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant (SAFER) Program.

Last June, Representatives Tom Kean, Jr. and Bill Pascrell, introduced the Fire Grants and Safety Act. Since then, the bill has advanced out of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee and is now up for consideration on the House Floor.

"All across our country, firefighters and EMS personnel work every day to keep their communities safe," said Representatives Tom Kean, Jr. and Bill Pascrell. "The AFG and SAFER grant programs are a critical pillar supporting this life-saving work. These grants are indispensable to our local fire departments, providing essential funding for equipment, training and resources that ensure the safety of our communities. It is our duty in Congress to support our firefighters and first responders."
