(June 5, 2024) WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) issued a statement today regarding Governor Kathy Hochul’s decision to indefinitely postpone the implementation of congestion pricing.
“From the very beginning, I have advocated for the cancellation of congestion pricing, a program that is deeply flawed, unfair, and is just a money-grab on New Jerseyans,” said Congressman Kean. “I have made it a priority of mine in Congress to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to put a stop to the congestion pricing program that was set to begin this month. I am glad to hear that Governor Hochul has postponed this program, but the fight is not over. ‘Indefinitely postponed’ is not enough. I will continue to work in Congress until there is a permanent cancellation of congestion pricing.”
In September 2023, Congressman Kean questioned Secretary Buttigieg on NYC’s congestion pricing proposal. Last month, Congressman Kean spoke with Ken Rosato from WOR Radio about congestion pricing.
Congressman Kean is also a cosponsor of H.Res.609 - Expressing opposition to Central Business District Tolling Program of New York City, a resolution opposing congestion pricing.
Congressman Kean serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and is a member of the Anti-Congestion Tax Caucus.
