On June 24, 2024, Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) presented a $3,794,414 ceremonial check for the Somerville YMCA Renovation project secured by the FY2024 Community Project Funding process. This funding will be used to renovate the Somerville YMCA and build classrooms.

“It is crucial to have affordable, accessible, and quality childcare and early education in New Jersey,” said Congressman Kean. “Early education results in better outcomes for our children, and without accessible early education, parents’ capabilities to provide for their families are constrained. This nearly $3.8 million-dollar federal grant will make great strides in addressing the unique needs of Somerville and make a real difference in the lives of families in Somerset County.”

“This funding that Congressman Kean has secured is an investment in our Somerville community that will have a positive impact for decades to come,” said Brian Gallagher, Mayor of Somerville. “Congressman Kean continues advocating for Somerville, and for that we thank him!”

“When we look at the faces of the children in our programs at the Y, we see the future. Every child deserves the opportunity to have a bright future and we inspire children to reach their full potential,” said David Carcieri, President/CEO of Greater Somerset County YMCA. “Quality preschool programs can change the educational trajectory of young children and influence lifetime achievement and well-being,” commented Carcieri. “We are immensely grateful to Congressman Kean for advocating for this funding that will allow us to renovate Somerville YMCA by establishing six preschool classrooms and collaborate with local school districts to educate an additional 90 children. This mixed delivery partnership will be critical to the success of universal access to preschool, and we are grateful for the Congressman’s belief in the Y’s mission and support of our future leaders.”

Congressman Kean secured $24 million in Community Project Funding for fiscal year 2024.
