Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act of 2024 (WRDA), which Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) supported to aid water resources projects of national, regional, and local significance undertaken by the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

Congressman Kean spoke on the House floor in favor of this legislation.

“Meeting the water resources needs in communities across the country is vital to our security, safety and economic stability,” said Congressman Kean. “I am pleased to see that included in this year’s WRDA package are eight priorities that I requested, including four local priorities for New Jersey’s 7th District. These improvements will boost our water infrastructure, grow our economy, and protect our communities from flooding. As a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I will continue to advocate for further investments in critical infrastructure projects that benefit New Jersey communities.”

Four key local projects and initiatives included by Congressman Kean are:

- A new feasibility study for flood risk management for the Township of Berkeley Heights, Borough of New Providence, and City of Summit, New Jersey

- A General Reevaluation Report (GRR) for the Green Brook Sub-Basin Flood Control Project in Middlesex, Somerset, and Union Counties, NJ

- Report language expediting completion of the Rahway River Flood Mitigation feasibility study

- Expansion of the New York/New Jersey Harbor and Tributaries Study by authorizing relevant non-Federal interests to undertake smaller projects within the project scope if deemed appropriate and in Federal interests

Congressman Kean currently serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
