On August 2, 2024, in Washington, NJ, Congressman Tom Kean Jr. (NJ-07) presented a $120,000 ceremonial check to the Abilities of Northwest Jersey. This funding was secured through the FY2024 Community Project Funding process and aims to enhance training and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities via classroom and distance learning.

The project will focus on providing distance learning that emphasizes soft skills, professional growth, and pre-employment services. Additionally, it will allocate funds for training and support to instructors to improve students' success in coding, technology, website development, and testing.

“This $120,000 federal grant secured for the Abilities of Northwest Jersey is a vital investment in our family, friends, and neighbors with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities,” said Congressman Kean. “I have had the privilege of touring the Abilities of Northwest Jersey since being sworn into Congress and have been impressed by their dedication and the impact they have on our community. This grant is a testament to our commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone in our district.”

Cindy Wildermuth, CEO of Abilities of Northwest Jersey, expressed gratitude: “We are truly grateful to Congressman Kean for advocating on behalf of persons with autism and other developmental disabilities. This funding will allow us to implement a hybrid classroom and distance learning platform, providing soft skill support and training in the technology industry. It is our goal that this initiative will lead to competitive employment in neurodiversity programs found at many tech companies across the country.”

Senator Doug Steinhardt also acknowledged the importance of this funding: “On behalf of the people of northwest New Jersey, I thank Congressman Kean for securing these necessary funds for Abilities, which will go a long way toward helping individuals with disabilities being given the opportunity to reach their fullest potential in life.”

Assemblyman John DiMaio added his appreciation: “I am thankful to Congressman Kean and his team for securing funding for Abilities of Northwest New Jersey. It is a valuable organization in our region, and I am confident they will use this funding well to support individuals with disabilities."

Commissioner James R. Kern III highlighted the broader impact: "Warren County is grateful for Congressman Kean's support and his securing of $127,000 in funding for Abilities of Northwest Jersey. The programs Abilities operates change the lives of so many in our community."

Mark Rossi, Deputy Mayor of Washington Township stated: “I would like to thank Congressman Kean for his support and efforts to provide this much-needed funding. By supporting the great work Abilities of Northwest Jersey provides to our communities we give opportunity and purpose to those with disabilities.”

Congressman Kean has secured $24 million in Community Project Funding for fiscal year 2024.
