Last Friday, Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. hosted his first Law Enforcement Hometown Heroes event at the Bernardsville Library to honor notable law enforcement officers in the community. The event was attended by Bernardsville Council President Al Ribeiro, Bernards Township Mayor Jennifer Asay, the honorees, their families, friends, and supervisors.
Kean recognized 22 officers from all six counties within New Jersey's 7th Congressional District. Each officer was nominated by their chiefs and supervisors for their exceptional service.
"First responders and law enforcement are the backbone of our communities' safety," said Congressman Kean. "I am fortunate to represent a district filled with some of the most selfless and hard-working people, including those we recognized as Law Enforcement Hometown Heroes. I am grateful to play a small role in recognizing their efforts as a token of appreciation for the difficult responsibilities these men and women have keeping our communities safe."
Sergeant Daniel Kern expressed gratitude for being acknowledged: "Law enforcement officers are some of the most misunderstood professionals. The vast majority of officers sacrifice a great deal for their communities and do so without the expectation or desire of any recognition. My department is full of officers that could easily be here in my place."
Sergeant Tracy Baldassare also shared her appreciation: "I am proud to represent and serve alongside all of the honorable women and men of the Bernards Township Police Department. Being able to do so in my hometown has been an added privilege, for which I will always be thankful."
The list of honorees included Captain Miguel Acabou from Clark Police Department, Sergeant Tracy Baldassare from Bernards Township Police Department, Lieutenant Douglas Baylor from Phillipsburg Police Department, Officer Alyse Brown from Sparta Township Police Department, Staff Sergeant Brent Hawkswell from NJ State Police, among others.
